The Best and Worst Sex & the City Outfits

Spring break is a time to vacation with friends and family, attempt to catch up on sleep, and, of course, binge watch your favorite shows. Lately, I have taken to re-watching Sex and the City. When I first watched this series, I remember being interested to see which plots had stood the test of time, as the show first aired on June 6th of 1998. As I continued to watch, however, I became even more intrigued by the way trends in fashion have evolved while simultaneously staying exactly the same. Take a look below at the best and worst outfits costume designer Patricia Fields crafted for Manhattan’s beloved series.

An essential to every closet, this neutral dress isn’t likely to go out of style any time soon.

There are so many things wrong with this outfit, it’s hard to know where to start. From the Bermuda shorts to the head scarf, this look has definitely gone out of fashion… if it was ever in at all.

With a bold color and flattering neckline, this dress is the perfect wildcard in Charlotte’s otherwise tame wardrobe.

This categorization speaks for itself, I think.

Carrie’s signature fur is one of the most fabulous pieces in the entire series, but Samantha’s coat threatens to take the cake in this scene set at Yankee Stadium.

Though Charlotte and Samantha’s dresses are fine (albeit boring), Miranda’s pattern is blinding and Carrie looks as though she is going to a 2009 middle school dance.

It’s easy to understand why Mr. Big reconsiders life without Carrie when he sees her in this gorgeous slip dress outside The Plaza.

My least favorite trend from the show’s six seasons? Carrie’s floral brooch fetish.

Samantha Jones wearing cheetah heels on the beach during a weekend getaway to the Hamptons… It doesn’t get more Sex and the City than that.

Worst:

This scene has some great cover-up inspo such as Miranda’s crisp white button-down and Samantha’s sheer wrap, but Carrie’s boardshorts definitely bring down the group average.

Samantha puts the power in power suits as a successful, unapologetic woman in 2000s New York.

On the other hand, she also (unsuccessfully) experiments with mixing these uninspired patterns.

In a belted mini with a cozy faux fur jacket, Carrie masters the “chill” first date look while out ice skating.

That being said, she also paired a high-waisted belt with a low-rise skirt…

Charlotte York wows in this eloquent Vera Wang wedding gown.

Not only does this Vivienne Westwood wedding dress resemble a duvet cover, Carrie makes matters worse when she tops off the ensemble with a teal feather headdress.
