We, Julia Demorest and Heather Crosby, instantly wanted to get involved after learning about Nano Anderson’s company, CUFFED by nano. This is why we applied to become Campus Ambassadors for Wake Forest University alongside Nano’s sister and WFU’s very own, Monica Anderson.
So, what is the company all about?
As an entrepreneur dedicated to giving back and making a difference in the world, Nano decided to launch a business selling super awesome jewelry, including cuffs, necklaces, rings, and keychains! CUFFED by nano’s mission is to make “fun, unique jewelry for the independent, adventurous babes of the world” with each piece “designed to inspire, to empower, and to have fun.”
It is not hard to see why so many people view Nano as their ultimate role model when hearing the Founder and CEO explain the ethos behind her business. “I started Cuffed for fun on the side of my full time job in the Spring of 2016,” Nano says. “ I’ve always been a primarily numbers driven person since I was young, but have always had an itch for creativity that filled my free time. At the time, I was working as a merchant for Abercrombie & Fitch HQ. I loved my job there, but itched for A) a little more individual creativity, and B) professional autonomy / entrepreneurship. I started making cuffs during my free time (I learned from a youtube video!), and after posting them for sale on social media, instantly knew there was a business there.
When asked how the business has grown since its start, the young entrepreneur was more than humble. “ I didn’t have any intention of it taking off like it did (had no sense of branding, direction, etcetera at the time!), but it took off and I followed!” she recalls. “ While I don’t still hand make [the cuffs], the original idea of allowing people to express themselves/tell their stories through their accessories is still our driving force. After 6 months of growing Cuffed as a side hustle, it was time to take it full time! I was 24 at the time, so it was pretty scary and I think my mom was pretty freaked out (lol), but i took the plunge and couldn’t be more happy about the decision to this day. I was born to be an entrepreneur!”
And thank goodness she was. Not only is her jewelry unique and timeless, but it also gives back. With Cuffed’s #buyonegivetwo mission, a portion of each purchase is donated to educating and feeding those in need in Haiti. The brand partners with Hands Together for Haitians to donate one week’s tuition + one meal per product sold to children in need in Haiti.
Nano found her passion for helping kids in Haiti over the last 10 years while doing mission work through her mother’s non profit organization. “It’s such a beautiful country, but there is so much desperation. Immediately after I started selling cuffs, I knew I wanted to use this platform to help people,” Nano told us. “ Through working with my mom, we identified a school that was/is absolutely desperately in need of help/finances/food/support. It’s been a great fit to this day.” Just last month, Nano visited the school to distribute cuffs to the kids and to figure out how she could help them even more going forward.
We, Heather Crosby and Julia Demorest, could not be more proud to be Brand Ambassadors for Cuffed.
