Talking with several locals, I have learned that Winston Salem desires new and creative restaurants in the downtown area- well yes, it would only make sense if some of Asheville’s “foodtopia” success rubbed off on us! Currently, downtown Winston favorites include Mozelles(!!!), Mellow Mushroom, Moonies, Willows Bistro, Sweet Potatoes and The Fourth Street Filling Station but it looks like there is a new kid on the block, offering something different than anything else in Winston Salem.
Mundo Tapas, directly across from Mellow Mushroom, takes you tastebuds around the world. The menu involves “mini smalls,” “veggie smalls,” “biggie smalls,” and “skewers,” amounting to over twenty-five different plates you can choose from. Traditionally, a variety of tapas are ordered and shared among friends (at Mundo, about two small plates makes a substantial meal for each diner). It’s fun to pick and choose different plates and to experience an array of flavors.
Charred Baby Eggplant with Za’atar, Greek Yogurt, Pepper-Walnut Relish, Pomegranate Molasses, Mint
Lebanese Lemon Garlic Chicken with Tzatiki
Mushroom Toast with Wild Mushrooms, Egg Over Easy, and Shiitake “Bacon” Whipped Cream
So for a little change of pace, step out of your comfort zone and order some unique dishes to share with your friends. The prices are reasonable and the food is fresh and delicious!
