Paris Haute Couture: Front Row Trends

The front rowers and street style icons in attendance at the Paris Haute Couture shows this past week made way for a modern take on maximalism in winter wear. Bold statement making fur coats hung from the shoulders of more than half of the fashion bloggers, designers and celebrities at the events while none hesitated from bright colours, large volume or loud prints, adding an over-the-top element to otherwise simple outfits. Floor-length florals and pops of bright red were other distinguishable trends from this week’s showing that the most covetable of wardrobes will now likely include.

With so much in-your-face style, it’s clear that the French girl minimalism we all so adore is stepping up its game this season.

Statement Making Fur:

Lauren Santo Domingo (top left) and Elena Perminova (top right) showed some fur at the Giambattista Valli show, pairing large volume coats with simple silhouettes. Take a note from their styling to create a balanced look with statement making outerwear by choosing body-conscious basics in neutral colours. Other style gurus like Anna Dello Russo went for a more dramatic choice, opting for bright pink mink in an artful arrangement, emphasizing the look with heeled boots in a similar hue for an entirely maximalist look, typical of her intense style.

Winter Wear Florals:

The Haute Couture attendees continued to create drama with floor length florals, layered with winter wear basics for a twist on cold weather style. Susie Bubble (top right) boldly layers mix-matched prints and structured denim for a high fashion look, while Veronika Heilbrunner (bottom) makes a more casual statement, pairing her blooms with red chucks and a shearling coat. Although this may be one of the more daunting trends, a floral maxi, sneakers and a leather structured jacket is the epitome of right-now street style—so tone it down with neutral hues or go for it by taking a cue from these ladies.

The Red Coats:

Leather, crepe or tweed, red coats had a major moment this week showing up in a number of coveted front row seats. The stylish audience members favored bright bold shades with structured silhouettes at the Chanel and Christian Dior shows, pairing them with flattering basics and minimal accessories. Make your textures standout by pairing a tweed blazer with leather cropped pants and heels for a sophisticated work wear appropriate style.
