How to Self-Care like a French Girl: Best French Pharmacy Products

We have all heard about the amazing reputation of French Pharmacies, that the pharmacy is like a department store and they have the best products for your skin. Well, you can imagine my excitement when I spent a semester studying abroad in France, because among the many wonderful things about this country, their pharmacies really do live up to their reputations!

Soon I will be returning back to Wake Forest, so I have decided to put together a list of my favorite products I have discovered here and that, luckily, I have found are sold in the US. Although my shopping experience won’t be the same as the French Pharmacies, my self-care will continue in the “French” way.

1. La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo (+)

This product is great if you, like me, have really sensitive skin.  I can truly say that this face wash and lotion duo has cleared up my breakouts.  The face wash is gentle and does not cause redness or irritation yet still works effectively to keep the skin consistently clear and hydrated.

2. Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk

What makes this dry shampoo so special and better than other dry shampoos is that it helps reduce the oils in one’s hair but does not leave a powdery residue. After spraying into the hair, run your fingers through your scalp and shake your hair. Not only will this product give the essence that you just washed your hair, but it smells incredible too thanks to the oat milk.

3. Avène Eau Thermale

The new trend is to spay rose water on your face after washing your face or before doing your makeup. Well, if you are like me and have very sensitive skin, the rose water can cause irritation. But if you are also like me and still want to have that extra boost of hydration and give your skin the dewy complexion look, I would recommend the Avène Eau Thermale. This product is great for hydration or to use for a beauty blender to apply makeup. It is effective in keeping the skin hydrated but also not causing an irritation.

4. Schmidt’s Ylang-Ylang + Calendula

This product is actually not a French brand, but I first learned about it at a French pharmacy. Many people, myself included,  have wanted to transition to all natural deodorants because of the health advantages, but have found that the organic deodorants neither smell good nor are effective. This is the first deodorant that I have found that does both of those things. Although more expensive than a deodorant like Dove, you receive the health benefits of the all organic, effective deodorant.
