Lights, camera, FASHION. Experiencing the Tommy Hilfiger Fashion show last Monday was a first glimpse into my ultimate dream career in the fashion industry: runway. Seeing the Tommy collection come together was the best experiences I’ve had so far. As an intern at the TH corporate offices, I was behind the scenes at the show. Here is my recap of everything Tommy!
For the Fall 2016 Runway Collection, Tommy Hilfiger honored the early 1900’s and the Titanic with a nautical theme, but—as always—there was a fun, young twist.
The space at Park Avenue Armory was filled with many from the industry. Famous bloggers, like Song of Style, Chriselle Lim, Pam Allier and Fer Medina debuted at the show, creating an environment with wonderful talent and style. Rachel Zoe, Nina Garcia, and Yolanda Foster were just some of the stars in attendance.
Tommy Hilfiger is always known for his elaborate shows. Some people refer to his show as “the Victoria Secret Fashion Show of NYFW.” The set, music and overall theme of the collection, made this show an unforgettable and glamorous experience. The runway was a replica of a 20th-century luxury cruise ship. Filled with props and benches for the super VIP guests, the runway made it seem like we were all experiencing starry nights on the S.S. Tommy Hilfiger.
Shimmer, Sparkle and Glitter
From the makeup to the clothing itself, the TH team gave the collection the ultimate feminine sparkle. His inspiration,“night and day in the sea,” encouraged the American-born designer to create a collection that features starlight inspired. With an emphasis on gold sequins and silver glimmer, the pieces created for this collection brought back memories of old Hollywood glamour and sparkle.
Classic with a Twist
Keeping true to their navy blue and “prep with a twist” style, Tommy Hilfiger created a collection featuring fabulous statement pieces, like sequined bomber jackets, navy blue fitted blazers, and a plethora of striped pieces.
The new with the old school (my favorite!)
Along with Tommy Hilfiger’s classics with a twist, the collection also included new trends within their nautical and 1900’s inspired theme. The collection featured new on-going trends such as mid calve heel booties, cape jackets, and silk pajamas.
This season was a home run, but next season will have its surprises, as well. Next season’s runway collection will feature Gigi’s new line!, and Tommy Hilfiger will be offering their customers a “buy now, wear now” gratification, which is also being used by Tom Ford, Burberry and Rebecca Minkoff. This will allow customers the ability to buy the collection instantly, without having to wait for the season.
Until then, I’ll be patiently waiting for Gigi’s new line!
