In case you missed it, the 2018 Victoria Secret Fashion Show aired on TV last night. The show is more than just your average fashion show- costing over $12 million and being the most watched fashion show in the world, with performances from some of the biggest names in music every year. This year, the models shared the stage with performers Bebe Rexha, the Chainsmokers, Halsey, Kelsea Ballerini, Leela James, Rita Ora, Shawn Mendes and the Struts. The label also collaborated with a London-based designer, Mary Katrantzou. The show took place in New York City at Pier 94 and was filmed in early November.

However despite all the hype around the show, every year always seems to cause some sort of controversy. This year the drama revolved around the lack of inclusion in transgender models. In November, Vogue published an interview with Ed Razek and Monica Mitro, the Victoria Secret chief architects, where they were asked if transgender models will ever appear in the show. Razek responded saying “No. No, I don’t think we should. Well, why not? Because the show is a fantasy. It’s a 42-minute entertainment special.” At a later time, Razek apologize for her comment saying how insensitive it came off to be and how she did not mean for it to be.
Halsey performing “Without Me” on stage
During the show, Halsey performed her song “Without Me”. However, right as the show aired, the bisexual singer posted on her instagram and her twitter addressing the controversial remarks of Razek about the lack of inclusivity in the show. Halsey stated how she has dreamed of performing in the VS fashion show he entire life, but mentioned how “as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I have no tolerance for a lack of inclusivity. Especially not one motivated by stereotype.” Halsey recommended that anyone who was feeling alienated or invalidated by the show to direct their attention to GLSEN: An organization that offers services aimed at protesting LGBTQ+ youth. Halsey made a sizeable donation to this organization in honor of those who felt targeted by all the comments.
Kendall Jenner making her way down the runway
Despite the lack of inclusion in transgender models, the rest of the show seemed to go very smoothly, with the models looking stunning as always. Here are a few of the highlights from the show:
- Elsa Hosk modeled a one-million dollar encrusted bra- adorned with 2,100 Swarovski Created Diamonds, which took over 930 hours to create
- Crowd- favorites Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Gigi Hadid all walked in the show again, doing an amazing job like they always seem to do
- Kelsey Merritt made history as the first Filipino woman to walk the runway this year
- British Vogue contributing beauty editor, Charlotte Tilbury, was the exclusive make-up sponsor of this year’s show
- Adriana Lima made her final walk down the runway after walking in the past 20 shows
