Fashion Month: 7 Trends for Fall 2022

By: Lanie Kotler

  1. Micro Minis

Ever since Miu Miu’s iconic spring 2022 collection featured micro mini skirts, the world has been obsessed. Mini skirts were seen at shows in all four cities this month, for this new trend is here to stay. Brands like Diesel, Blumarine, 16Arlington, LaQuan Smith, and Kim Shui all featured skirts that, as Paris Hilton stated, “should be the size of a belt.”

2. Mesh Mania

The runways this season were covered with slinky, sexy pieces. Designers like Kim Shui, Christian Siriano, Khaite, Supriya Lele, and Fendi showed stunning mesh pieces in their collection. Mesh clothing is the new inspiration for evening wear in Fall 2022.

3. Cutout Craze

In tandem with this year’s theme of showing some skin, the cutout craze has continued into Fall 2022. Julia Fox opened LaQuan Smith’s show in a daring black cutout dress, showing the world what the power of a sexy revenge dress can do. Other designers such as Prabal Gurung, Halpern, Christopher Kane, and Roberto Cavalli followed his lead.

4. Tailored to Perfection

Fashion can’t get any more classic than a suit. This year, Fashion month featured tailored looks in many forms. Trench coats, blazers, suit sets, and jackets were just some of the tailored pieces that graced the runway. Brands like Proenza Shouler, Fredrick Anderson, Duncan, Christian Dior, and Jil Sander brought statement making suits to the eyes of the public.

5. Oversized Overcoats

The biggest staple from Fall/Winter fashion shows is always clothes for the upcoming cold weather! In juxtaposition to the growing theme of showing skin, designers featured large and boxy coats. Trussardi, Gucci, Blumarine, Coach, and Simon Miller showed us how to stay warm with some oversized statement jackets.

6. Leather Everywhere

Move over denim! Leather is the new versatile fabric to beat. This year’s shows featured leather jackets, skirts, dresses, tops, boots, you name it. Brands like Simon Miller, Sergio Hudson, Supryia Lele, and Diesel all showed fabulous leather pieces in every style imaginable.

7. Statement Shimmers

There comes a time where you finally get a chance to make a statement with your outfit. The fashion shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris gave the world lots of sparkly options for going out next fall. Designers such as Ambush, GCDS, Roberto Cavalli, Collina Strada, and Paco Rabanne all made sparkly and shimmery statement pieces for you to look your best in.
