Five Clothing Must-Haves for Fall

By Lexi Zyskowski

As loungewear has been all the rage for the past six months, people are starting to crave a more polished and formal look. Although the loungewear trend might be losing a bit of steam, the pandemic surely isn’t, so comfort is still a must. Think the perfect mix of Parisian and NYC fashion: chic, effortless, yet still prioritizing comfort. But with that being said, I know I miss the crispness of jeans and the structure of a nice blazer. So when shopping for clothing this fall, find pieces that deliver on the form you’re craving, but still feel cozy especially as the cold weather starts to hit. This season is all about looking sophisticated and more importantly feeling fantastic.

The Leather Pant

We saw it last season, and I’m confident that we will see it again this season with new cuts and colors. Although notoriously considered sticky, stiff, and impossible to get off, these leather pants have either a looser fit or a lining for easy removal. Style with an oversized sweater and booties or a fitted tee and mid length trench for that classic fall look.

I own the Artizia Daria Ankle Pant, and I can attest to their comfort and simplicity. These pants have an inner lining and made from a Japanese vegan leather that perfectly contours to your body after a few wears. They’re easy to wash (inside out and hang dry) and definitely easy to pull on and off while not compromising on the stunning and suave leather look.

The Sweater Vest

To no one’s surprise, the school girl look will have a huge place in fashion this fall. As designers just released their Fall/Winter 2021 collections, pleats, plaid, and preppyness were all excessively featured. These oversized sweater vests are comfortable and give off that effortless boy-ish look, as seen on Kendall Jenner, Zendaya, Hailey Bieber, and many other style icons in 2020. Style with jeans and sneakers, as a dress with knee high boots, or with a collared shirt and pleated skirt for that ultimate school girl vibe.

Silk Button Up

The less bold little cousin to sequins and metallic, silk is for sure in this season with designers like Brunello Cucinelli, Celine, and Max Mara featuring these flowy and shiny items on their runway. A perfect way to transition into this trend is a simple layering piece like a button down or blouse. You can opt for whatever tone your eye is most drawn to or whatever will compliment your skin’s undertones best. Style under an oversized sweater with black pants, or tucked into blue jeans with ankle boots.

Wool Long Coat

Forever trending, the perfect mid or long length coat is essential as the falls start to become chillier and chillier every year. This type of coat is a classic and almost every professional’s go-to for their final layer. It will always look polished and clean, while delivering on comfort and warmth. Perfect for interviews, internships, and even when walking to get coffee, a wool coat is such a fall staple. Style over leather leggings with ankle boots, or over a maxi length slip dress for the ultimate chic look.

Power Suit

The crisp lines of a blazer and trousers are more desirable than ever this season. The perfect fall suit is the epitome of classy, casual, and chic. With the extra room given by the oversized trend, comfort is definitely apparent in this trend as well. Perfect to wear to feel sophisticated, powerful, and fashionable, you can never go wrong with the blazer and pant combo. They’re even great to wear apart or paired with loungewear to add some polish to that quarantine look. Style together with your favorite shoe, or apart and wear the blazer over high waisted jeans with a tee, and the trousers with a crewneck and some fall accessories.

Investing in some versatile fall pieces is a great way to feel more structured as we all spend hours and hours in our rooms everyday on Zoom calls. These five comfortable yet chic must-haves will always be on trend and make anyone feel amazing. As we transition into the colder weather, these pieces will make sure you’re cozy all day long while not sacrificing that sophistication that we’re all starting to crave.
