Staple Summer Accessories

By Lynn Huffard

In the heat of summer the best way to brighten any outfit is with the perfect accessories. This summer I invested in a few key pieces that were definite staples throughout the season. The best part about accessories is the evergreen quality to most of the products. Although the summertime definitely inspired some of these pieces, I can see myself wearing them virtually any time of year.

The best way to find accessories is to look online or on instagram at some of your style icons. You will find that many of their outfits actually are accented with similar pieces. Some core summer accessories I got this summer were inspired by of course influencers and models like Gigi Hadid, and Kendall Jenner, but most of the accessory inspiration I get comes from my instagram saves, where I can save images that oftentimes curate a very specific vibe.

The first accessory I want to highlight is actually not something that can be seen- it is the Chanel Paris- Deauville Perfume. This one is an Eau de Toilettte, which means the fragrance is less potent, or lighter than a true perfume. Before I discovered this scent I had alternated between using a perfume from an Anthropologie and Calypso collaboration that had a really beachy, yet woodsy scent to it or the classic, Chanel No. 5. This is the perfect balance between beachy and fresh yet classic perfumes, and I also just love the look of it. I bought this after seeing Madelyn Cline from the Netflix Series Outerbanks use it during a Harper Bazaar’s nighttime routine on Youtube.

The next accessory that I am obsessed with are these amazing chunky golden hoops from Missoma called “ancien golden hoops". I love these hoops because they aren’t too big, but because the sculptural texture of them they seriously accent and frame your face. I found these off a Kendall Jenner fan account that breaks-down her outfits and lets you know where you can buy the pieces- called kendalljennercloset. Accounts like these can be so helpful when you want to emulate a fashion icon’s style.

An accessories highlight can’t be done without mentioning shoes. It seems mules were all the rage this summer, and I am obsessed. I bought a pair off of Revolve; they are white strappy mule sandals from the brand House of Harlow called House of Harlow 1960 Women's White X Revolve Vivanne Slide. I bought this pair after seeing WeWoreWhat’s Danielle Bernstein literally rocking every East Hampton look with a similar pair. These are a staple shoe and I will definitely wear them as long as I can.

Last but not least, are the Sunglasses I bought from a small boutique in Nantucket. The brand is called Le Specs, and I am in love with them. A wider framed lens always tends to look best on my face and they are the perfect balance between small and I guess you would say “normal” sized glasses. I love that I can put them on the top of my head and not get my hair caught in them. I can see myself wearing these all year long. I couldn’t find the exact pair I got online, but here are ones that look super similar called, “outta love”.

Investing in some great accessories is such a perfect way to add interest to your outfits. I always tend to look for accessories with longevity to them, but it can also be fun to adapt to trends through accessories as well. Although summer is coming to a close, it is always fun to reflect on what were staples in your wardrobe. It’s another way to document the time and see how your style evolves!
